Rabbi Yehuda Glick. a leading right-wing activist and advocate for Jewish control of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, was shot tonight in an apparent terrorist attack at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem.
The US-born Glick was reportedly shot at close range in his upper body at the annual “Temple Mount and Eretz Yisrael Faithful Movement” at the center by a man riding a motorcycle – a style of assassination common in Israel’s Mafia and underworld that may have been adopted by Islamic terrorists.
Members of Knesset and leading right-wing activists including them Deputy Minister Eli Ben Dahan (Yesh Atid), MK Moshe Feiglin (Likud) and MK Miri Regev (Likud) were reportedly at the event, Ynet reported.
"What happened is horrible but very expected. Glick was constantly threatened. The fact that he was not assigned protection at all times is a failure. I say this as someone who is the target of constant incitement. Weakness and incompetence were behind this attack. This was a relaxed conference, the room was half full. This was not an impassioned event. An Arab came there with the urge to kill,” Feiglin told Ynet.
No Arrests have been reported and it is unclear if any other people were wounded or what the actual motivation for the shooting was.
Glick is reportedly critically wounded.
People are asked to pray for Yehuda Yehoshua ben Rivka Ita Breindel.
