A haredi man living in the Israeli port city of Ashdod, Shimon Alfasi, was arrested Thursday for allegedly smuggling alternative transportation vehicles in shipping containers being shipped to a haredi charity in the city.
The containers’ bill of lading showed they were supposed to be holding furniture and other equipment for a haredi synagogue and a kindergarten.
Instead, Arutz Sheva reported that the containers actually contained was one SUV, six ATV's, two motorbikes and two electric bicycles, all of which need special import permits. Also in the containers were five high-powered electric scooters which are forbidden in Israel due to their danger to pedestrians and others.
Alfasi was released on bail.
