Jury selection for the trial of Rabbi Moshe Menachem Taubenfeld has been postponed because DA Thomas Zugibe says he needs more time to prepare his case, News 12 reported.
Taubenfeld is a well-known rabbi in the hasidic village of New Square in Rockland County, New York. He allegedly sexually molesting a 9-year-old boy who came to him for counseling after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York City, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania.
The abuse allegedly continued over a five-year period.
In 2013, Taubenfeld's brother Herschel pleaded guilty to forcible touching, a misdemeanor. He was originally charged with 10 counts each of forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, and 3rd degree sexual assault – all misdemeanors. He was sentenced to six years probation for that lone forcible touching charge.
