Police refused to provide any further details, other than to say the two girls are safe and refer questions to Chatham-Kent Children's Services for any further comment. All but a handful of cult members have already fled Canada for Guatemala to escape allegations of child abuse, neglect and forced child marriages.

Are they now in Guatemala?
Chatham-Kent police told CTV News Friday that two girls from the Lev Tahor haredi cult are now out of foster care.

Several Lev Tahor members faced child abuse, neglect and forced child marriage investigations in Quebec, causing the entire cult to flee to Chatham-Kent in rural Ontario late last year.
The cult fought a prolonged legal battle to avoid being forced to return to Quebec and to prevent 14 of its children from being placed in foster care there.
Late this spring, members of the cult linked directly to the child abuse and neglect charges tried to flee to Guatemala. Some were arrested in Trinidad and deported back to Ontario while one of the fleeing cult members, a 17-year-old girl, was nabbed in western Canada waiting for a flight to Guatemala along with her infant child.
After promising an Ontario judge that they would not flee, the entire cult – save a handful of members, most children in foster care – fled Canada and resettled in rural Guatemala where the cult’s bizarre lifestyle provoked local indigenous people to expel Lev Tahor from the small village it had settled in.
The cult now lives in a rundown office building in Guatemala City.
Chatham-Kent law enforcement, child services and the local courts have repeatedly mishandled the Lev Tahor cases and failed to act decisively or swiftly to protect the children even after it became clear Lev Tahor leaders and the children’s parents had repeatedly deceived them.
