“Maran [our supreme spiritual leader] died in sanctification of God’s name [“al Kiddush Hashem;” i.e., as a martyr]. We all saw his pain over the evil decree to draft haredi Torah students and how it affected his heart, eventually leading to his death. This government will be held accountable! Nothing they can do in this world will be a tikun [spiritual repair] for this! They killed Maran!”

Haredi Kabbalist Says Government “Killed” Rabbi Ovadia Yosef

When he died in October 2013, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef – the top Sefardi haredi rabbi in the world – was 93-years-old.
Yosef had been in poor health for some time, with serious back, cardiac, and kidney issues.
Nonetheless, according to a report in Yeshiva World, one haredi rabbi told a public gathering of thousands of people this week at Yosef’s tomb that Yosef died because the government’s attempt to draft haredi yeshiva students destroyed his heart and literally “killed” him.
They killed Maran!” Sefardi haredi kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Adas reportedly said.
Leading the gathering with Adas was Rabbi Reven Elbaz, another top Sefardi haredi rabbi.
The group of thousands prayed for the security of Jews in Israel – especially in southern Israel, which communities abut and are extremely vulnerable to rocket fire from Gaza.
The group also recited special prayers for a haredi yeshiva student who repeatedly dodged the draft and is currently in an IDF prison awaiting trial. Elbaz and Adas want the haredi yeshiva student to be released from prison immediately and returned to his yeshiva.
