A three year old haredi boy died in a bungalow fire at Camp Mareh Yechezkel in Liberty, New York on the edge of the Catskill Mountains Sunday night.
The boy, Aron Follman of Borough Park, died from smoke inhalation, VIN News reported.
His mother was inside the bungalow when the fire broke out. She was wable to save five of her children but not Aaron.
The fire is reportedly believed to have started in bungalow’s master bedroom.
Several Hatzolah members and a New York State trooper tried to enter the burning building but were unable to do so because of the severity of the fire and the heat and the smoke.
That trooper and two of the Follman children were transported to a hospital.
Volunteers from the Liberty and the Swan Lake fire departments responded to the fire, reportedly a few minutes after 10:00 pm.
Hatzolah apparently received the first emergency call at 9:48 pm, and while VIN does not report this, it may be that if the haredim in the camp called Hatzolah directly and did not call 911, or called Hatzolah first and only called 911 after that, the delay in calling 911 could have led to the fire spreading more than it otherwise would have and, perhaps, to the child’s death – although this is by no means clear.
