A 16-year-old camp counselor was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually molesting three six-year-old boys at the Neil Klatskin Day Camp, which is an arm of the Kaplen Jewish Community Center on the Palisades in New Jersey.
The counselor, who is reportedly from Teaneck, was charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, NJ.com reported. He was released to his parents' custody and is reportedly required to wear an electronic ankle bracelet to monitor his movements.
A camp employee reportedly directly witnessed the counselor touching a boy inappropriately and told camp directors, who reported the alleged abuse to Tenafly police. Prosecutors and police began an investigation in July that resulted in Tuesday’s arrest.
Camp directors notified parents of campers about the alleged abuse, as well.
"Every child under the care of the juvenile actor was brought to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and forensically interviewed by detectives from the Special Victims Unit. During those interviews, it was determined that three of the children made disclosures involving inappropriate sexual touching. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of the juvenile actor on August 12, 2014,” prosecutors reportedly said in a statement.
Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said that while he was not aware of any other alleged victims besides the three six-year-olds, the investigation into the alleged abuse is still active.
