The Russian military has apparently shot down a Malaysian Air passenger plane over eastern Ukraine, likely killing 295 people.
The plane was flying openly and legally at an altitude of 10 kilometers – more than 32,000 feet, too high for it to have been shot down by unsophisticated surface to air missiles – on the normal route taken by commercial aircraft traveling between Europe and Asia.
The missile that allegedly hit the plane appears to have been fired from Russia by the Russian military.
The plane was a Boeing 777 traveling from from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
Less than a week ago, a commercial cargo plane was shot down in the same area. US intellegence agencies say that missile was fired from Russian territory, as well.
