A rocket fired from Gaza struck a gas station next to a nursing home in Ashdod, severely wounding a 50-year-old man and also wounding an unknown number of others, Ha’aretz reported.
Avi Amar, a paramedic from Hatzalah who is on the scene, reportedly said that the rocket scored “a direct hit” on the station, causing massive damage to gas station and a large fire with heavy smoke that fire crews are working to control.
Amar also said the severely-wounded 50-year-old man’s hand was amputated, and a number of other trauma victims were treated, as well. He said he’s afraid people are still trapped in the burning gas station.
Some reports have Magen David Adom confirming eight wounded, including the severely injured man.
Rockets were fired from Gaza at Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities, including Kfar Chabad near Tel Aviv and towns in the Judean foothills within the past two hours. The three rockets fired at Tel Aviv and its suburbs were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system. No casualties have been reported.
Meanwhile, the two IDF soldiers who were wounded yesterday, one severely, by shrapnel from a mortar shell in southern Israel are still hospitalized, Ha’aretz reported.
One was operated on overnight, and is currently under sedation in an intensive care unit.
The less seriously injured soldier is in good condition in the hospital's orthopedic ward.
