Hamas Turns Down PLO Unilateral Cease Fire Proposal

The PLO declared a unilateral 24-hour humanitarian Gaza cease fire today that would have been respected by all Palestinian factions and hopefully by Israel, but Hamas rejected it.
"We will not agree to calm until Israel commits to quiet. If we get an international commitment regarding an Israeli agreement for calm, we will consider it," a spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri, reportedly said.
Hamas has broken previous cease fires Israel accepted and held, and has rejected several other cease fire proposals. Israel has also kept cease fires at the UN's request even as Hamas refused to do so.
Some analysts view the PLO's proposal as especially significant because it did not call on Israel to with draw from Gaza for the cease fire to take effect and because Hamas originally appeared to be ready to accept the cease fire despite that.
Israel has insisted on using cease fires to destroy Hamas terror tunnels it has already found and captured that run from Gaza under the border into Israel and are used by Hamas to attack Israeli civilians, attempt kidnappings and smuggle contraband.
Hamas illegally used tens (or even hundreds) of millions of dollars of international aid money and supplies earmarked to build schools and hospitals to instead build those teror tunnels and underground military command bunkers meant to protect Hamas leaders in case of war. But Hamas built no bomb shelters for the Gaza population.
