At least four IDF soldiers are dead and six others wounded, some critically, when mortars fired from Gaza hit the Eshkol region of Israel just across the Gaza border, Israeli media, including Ynet, reported.
The attack took place early Monday night.
Because this was a mortar attack, no missile warning sirens sounded.
Meanwhile, Hamas also continued firing rockets into into Israel.
The unofficial cease fire between Israel and Hamas was broken earlier in the day when Hamas fired rockets at Israel at 12:40 pm on Monday. The rockets fell short of the border, however, and landed inside the Gaza Strip.
Just after 7 am, one single rocket was fired from Gaza at Asheklon. It exploded in an open area with no casualties. The IDF did not immediately respond but later attacked two rocket launchers and a weapons manufacturing location in retaliation.
No IDF soldiers were killed or wounded overnight while the cease fire was in place, but many have reportedly been killed or wounded afterward, including the four killed and six wounded in the mortar attack.
