The Zionist Orthodox former Chief Rabbi of the IDF, Avihai Ronsky, wrote on his Facebook page that there is only one way to find and rescue the three Zionist Orthodox teen boys kidnapped while hitchhiking in the West Bank late Thursday night, June 12 – use collective punishment against all Palestinians in the area where the IDF believes the three teens are being held.
According to a report in the right wing Zionist Orthodox Jewish settler news website Arutz Sheva, Ronsky wrote that even though the IDF was conducting already conducting mass arrests of alleged Hamas terrorists and had imposed a closure on Hebron, much more should still be done.
“The steps already taken are very basic,” Ronsky said. “We must cause an earthquake, at least within Hamas.
“We see examples of the proper attitude in the Tanach [Hebrew Bible], as well as in modern days.…
“When Jacob confronted them [after they had committed genocide] and expressed his fears that now he would be a target of the other warlords, Shimon and Levi asked 'are you satisfied to allow our sister to be turned into a prostitute?' In other words, if we remain quiet and do not react, our security situation will become worse, not better,” Rabbi Ronsky wrote, referring to the story of the rape of Dina found in Genesis 34. The Bible says the son of the ruler of the town of the West Bank city of Shechem raped Dina, Jacob’s daughter. After the rape, the rapist’s father asked Jacob’s family to allow Dina to marry his son. Jacob’s sons tricked the Shechemites into circumcising themselves so the marriage could take place, and then after the circumcisions took place, two of those son’s of Jacob, Shimon and Levi, massacred all of the males of Shechem – even those who had not directly participated in the rape or witnessed it – while they were weak and in pain from being freshly circumcised. After that massacre the other brothers looted the city and took the women and children as slaves.
Ronsky sees this as a role model and good thing – not as genocide and evil.
“Only with a sharp blow will we make it clear that Jewish blood is not cheap,” Ronsky continued. “The same goes today: Only by dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which caused millions of deaths, did the US bring an end to World War 2. In the end, the number of victims were smaller than they would have been, both for the allies and the Japanese,” Ronsky concluded, adding that by striking hard at Hamas, Israel would ultimately be saving both Israeli and Palestinian lives.
However, in the Bible itself Jacob later withholds certain blessings from Shimon and Levi, and in rabbinic literature the pair are criticized and Levi’s (non-priestly) descendants are viewed as extremists because of their descent from him.
Ronsky (also spelled Rontzky and Rontzki) grew up in a secular home but became Orthodox as an adult while serving in an IDF company commander in the Yom Kippur War.
Ronsky has previously called for the IDF to murder terror suspects "in their beds," criticized non-Orthodox IDF soldiers, and insisted that IDF soldiers who show mercy to the enemy in a time of war will be "damned" for doing so.
Ronsky founded and heads a Zionist Orthodox yeshiva in the extremist West Bank settlement of Itamar.
