Modern Orthodox developer Shalom Lamm – who allegedly tried to hide the true nature of his massive Satmar hasidic housing development in tiny Bloomingburg, New York by having a front man pitch the development to village officials as a vacation and retirement community that would be low density and would include a golf course – is now calling the breaking of windows on three of the commercial properties he owns in the 420-person village “a hate crime,” the Times Herald-Record reported today.
Windows in three Lamm’s commercial properties on Main Street were reportedly broken on four of the past six nights.
All of the businesses slated to occupy those stores are hasidic and are meant to serve the thousands of hasidim who are moving the tiny village to live in the 396 large townhouses Lamm is building for them.
Lamm’s properties in Bloomingburg, including his office, were raided by the FBI earlier this year and Lamm’s company is believed to be under criminal investigation.
Also earlier this year, the elections commission tossed out about 100 votes from Lamm, his family and hasidim who wrongly tried to vote in Bloomingburg’s election by falsely claiming local residence.
But that alleged election fraud and what many describe as Lamm’s near-constant lies and deception hasn’t stopped the son of former Yeshiva University President and Chancellor Rabbi Norman Lamm from alleging anti-Semitism, even when he has no proof to back up his allegations.
“Our response to obstacles will be perseverance; our response to hatred will be love. They are running to destroy, and we are running to create. They are running to divide and we are running to unite,” Lamm told the paper.
State Police reportedly went to the three commercial properties after the windows were broken, but did not issue any comment when asked by the paper about the incidents.
