"There was no expulsion of Jews from the town of San Juan la Laguna. There is a group of Jews [Lev Tahor] who are migrating from Canada to Guatemala, [but they are being] pursued by the Canadian authorities for legal issues there,” George Tannenbaum, President of the Guatemala Jewish Community, reportedly said.

Alleged Anti-Semitic Expulsion Of Jews From Small Guatemalan Town Reportedly A Reaction To The Behavior Of The Lev Tahor Haredi Cult

The alleged ordered expulsion of the Jewish community of the tiny Guatemalan town San Juan la Laguna, which reportedly took place because the Jews refused to assimilate with the locals, turns out to be a far different story than originally reported in the media.
The Jews who were asked to leave that tiny town are reportedly all members of the Lev Tahor haredi cult. And, the vocal activist, Misael Santos, who pitched the story of unprovoked medieval anti-Semitism from the Guatemalan locals is actually a Lev Tahor member, according to a report in a Jewish Spanish language news service cited by Arutz Sheva.
"There was no expulsion of Jews from the town of San Juan la Laguna. There is a group of Jews who are migrating from Canada to Guatemala, [but they are being] pursued by the Canadian authorities for legal issues there,” George Tannenbaum, President of the Guatemala Jewish Community, reportedly told La Agencia Judía de Noticias last week.
The Spanish language news website Prensa Libre originally reported that a "small group of Jews" were being persecuted by the town government. They were, the reports alleged, being forced to register with the town as Jews on a special list after waves of Jewish immigrants had flooded the town. Attacks against these Jews were allegedly ignored by local police. And the Jews were allegedly ordered to leave the town. All of this was apparently reported by Prensa Libre solely on the word of Santos, a convert who had joined the Lev Tahor cult.
Prensa Libre failed to report that the new “waves of immigrants” to San Juan la Laguna were in fact members of the Lev Tahor cult fleeing from multiple child abuse allegations in Canada and persistent claims that the group sanctions the sexual abuse of minors and uses psychotropic drugs to control rebellious members – including children.
Lev Tahor’s founder and leader, Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans, is a convicted kidnapper. His followers, even small children, wear layers of clothing even on the hottest days and the female members of the cult wear burka-like garments that cover their bodies in several layers of dark wool from the top of their heads to their toes.
Child protection officials in Quebec reported extremely poor hygiene in homes and of Lev Tahor children, along with substandard healthcare. Children were also forcibly removed from their families and forced to live in other cult members’ homes as punishment for misbehavior. And Lev Tahor children essentially receive no secular education at all.
In Guatemala, about 30 Lev Tahor members were reportedly living together in a two- or three-room dirt floor shack.
Last year, Shlomo Helbarns' wife was reported beaten by a mob of his followers after she objected to the extreme beatings and other cruel punishments doled out to Lev Tahor children. She was able to successfully flee the group.
