Rabbi Boruch Lebovits pleaded guilty today to a child sex abuse related charge but got a sweetheart plea deal and sentence – one year in city jail, not state prison.
Lebovits faced possible decades in jail if convicted on the original charges. (In 2010, Lebovits was convicted on those charges and sentenced to 10 2/3 to 32 years in state prison. That conviction was later overturned on a technicality that in no way impacted the evidence against him, which remained exceedingly strong.)
Chalk another bad decision up to Brooklyn's new DA, Ken Thompson.
