OPEN LETTER TO THE MONTREAL COMMUNITY
As is known, the Heimishe Montreal has recently been brewing (tumling) about the upcoming election, in which two Jewish candidates are running for the same position, one a man and the other a woman.
Without getting into all the details when and how this situation came about that two candidates are running to represent the same community, and why some people support one candidate and others support the other, we’d like to bring out a few points to help people understand where we are in this world.
Are we already so desensitized that we already don’t feel if something isn’t consistent with our Jewish Torah’s lifestyle?
Are we already so close to the goy, that all concepts that the lowly goy has determined to be part of his worldview, we have to make peace with and accept?
Meaning, it was not that long ago that even by goyim it was a normal and an accepted idea that there are things that are made for men and there are things made for women, mainly public things for men and house things for women.
For example in our case, until recently there was never such a thing that women should be elected to political positions, for example in the history of America’s almost 250 year democracy, no woman was ever elected president.
Simply because even by the goy it was understood that in the open there is a certain level of the concept of tznius, that a woman is not made to stand up in public.
Only in the last fifty to hundred years started blowing more and more animalistic winds, to take away every difference between men and women, as if the nature of tznius that Hashem put into creation is discrimination.
Now, before debating whether this ASKAN is guilty or another ASKAN is guilty over this tumult in the city,
Before debating if this candidate is capable or the other candidate is more capable, before debating whether this party is better for the heimishe community or the other party is not as good as a fit (sic),
Before debating which side has more chances of winning,
We need to ask ourselves, did the goyishe mindset of equal rights sink in entirely into our camp?
Was the whole feeling of tznius that separated the yid from the goy every generation, already entirely forgotten and erased by us?
Did we forget our goal of being mechanech our daughters with the foundation of modesty as is fitting for daughters of kings as the Posuk says כל כבודה בת מלך פנימה, that as is well known is the first foundation of chinuch not to something that contradicts what we teach our kids?
Do we Montreal Jewry that are known for our mesiras nefesh to be separated from the goy with all his disgust be the first to break this fence and a leader for other Jewish cities, litfish and chassidish alike, such as Boro Park, Lakewood, Williamsburg, Flatbush, New Square, Monroe, Monsey, where Jewish voters vote for candidates that enough with discrimination, it is time to not only vote in men to represent us in the government?
Besides for the candidacy itself of a Jewish woman, another terrible and unimaginable “break in the fence of Judaism” happened here, that pictures were posted in all the streets, it is literally unbelievable that something like this can happen in a city where heimishe jews live, in it should stay quiet as if nothing happened.
Is it possible that from such a “stumbling block” can something good result for our community?
Even before any possibility of gaining anything that we’d like to achieve by having our own representative, the city paid already a huge price in Ruchnius, to cause the public to sin with hundreds of “sinful views,” or with the huge lessening of tznius feelings that was caused in the women, seeing that a picture of a heimishe woman can hang in the streets without anyone protesting.
What signal are we sending our kids with planning to even support this? Gevald!
We, as jews who are believers the sons of believers, believe that all tzaros and problems that we suffer in exile from the goyim, is a direct message from the Ribono Shel Olam, to keep us apart from the goy, and bring us closer to Him.
How absurd is to answer this with doing just the opposite of the tachlis that Hashem wants from us, and to get even closer to the goyishe life style, is this possible?
As believing Jews, can we even think and expect that through such conduct can we improve the situation?
Jews, wake up before it’s too late! Let’s stop this terrible mistake in time! Let’s stand up and say with force, NO!!! We will not allow all of Klal Yisroel’s gedarim and fences to be broken! Let us reconsider this while there’s still time and stay true to the treaden path to which Klal Yisroel has kept and strengthened over all tests through thousands of years of her existence.
In this merit we should protected from above to protect us from all storms in ruchnius and in gashmius that blow around us and want to swallow us rachmuna litzlon, and we should merit to the coming of moshiach quickly in our days.
Signing in pain,
Montreal Jewry
