Haredi Rabbi Caught Cheating On EMT Test, State Voids Results Of 25 Test-Takers, Changes Test

A haredi rabbi, Ezra Max, who owns a life coaching counseling business, KosherCoaching.com, was caught on camera taking pictures of New York State’s EMT exam booklet as the exam was being administered at Universal Emergency Care Training in Brooklyn, the New York Post reported. Max and his 25 fellow EMT test-takers were also sitting elbow-to-elbow, allowing test-takers to see their neighbors’ answers.
The state does not allow cellphones in testing sites and does not allow test-takers to sit that close together.
Confronted with a photo of Max taking pictures of the test that was taken by yet another test-taker with a cellphone, the state voided the results of all 25 men taking the test. However, the state chose to penalize no one, not even Max or the test’s proctor, for the dishonesty.
The state was forced, however, to change its test to prevent future cheating.
Max is the COO and a part-owner of the recently-founded NYC Community EMS Volunteer Ambulance. He is reportedly not, however, a licensed EMT. He previously co-founded East Midwood Volunteer Ambulance Company, also in Brooklyn, but was apparently forced out in a dispute over money.
“I didn’t take any pictures of the exam. I don’t know why anybody would make such an accusation,” Max reportedly said – despite the fact that a fellow test-taker had caught him on camera doing so.
Asked by the Post if had a cellphone in the exam room, Max reportedly answered, “No comment.”
