“Who wants to be buried next to this lady? It’s very difficult to know where to put her. I hear they called up the rabbonim in Israel and they told them the decision [to bury her outside New Square].…The family is ashamed [of her]. They’re very ashamed.”
Writing in the Forward, Debra Nussbaum Cohen adds a couple sad pieces of information to what has already been reported about the funeral of Deb Tambor, a former member of the Sqvere hasidic sect who passed away on Saturday (apparently as a suicide, although this is not yet clear, as I reported).
As I reported, Deb's formerly-haredi friends, including her live-in boyfriend who is also a former Sqvere hasid, gathered for her funeral in New Square only to have the funeral delayed time and time and time again in an apparent attempt to get them to leave.
Nussbaum Cohen reports that at one point, a Sqvere hasid called police to try to have the formerly-haredi friends dispersed, but police refused to do so.
Shortly afterward, one of those formerly-haredi friends had to call police (apparently after hasidim began to menace them). Police came and again refused to disperse the former haredim.
After standing outside the funeral home for as much as 12 hours, the former haredim held their own brief service and dispersed at about 4:00 am.
Deb Tambor was eventually buried at 10:00 am in a Long island cemetery far from New Square – and without any of her current friends or her live-in boyfriend present.
Why a burial in Long Island?
Lets let Menashe Lustig explain why.
“Who wants to be buried next to this lady?” New Square resident Menashe Lustig told the Forward in a phone interview. “It’s very difficult to know where to put her. I hear they called up the rabbonim in Israel and they told them the decision” that she should be buried elsewhere. Of Tambor’s life and death, he said, “The family is ashamed. They’re very ashamed.”
Lustig, who is a tremendous hypocrite, didn't stop his attack on the deceased with that horrific statement. He added this:
“In public they say [she was buried in Long Island]…because she wasn’t shomer Shabbos [Sabbath observant]. But my friend told me it was because she has [sexual] relations with strangers and everything. It’s like she was free.”
Here is a video of Lustig – who also allegedly defended the New Square arsonist – dancing in a bedroom with a scantily clad (in hasidic and haredi terms) woman. (Too bad the Forward did not report who it was quoting.)
