The married 28-year-old haredi yeshiva student who physically assaulted 99-year-old haredi leader Rabbi Aaron Leib Shteinman Wednesday morning reportedly had his remand extended until Sunday at hearing that took place this morning in the Tel Aviv District Court.
Shteinman was taken to the hospital today as a “precautionary measure,” Yeshiva world reported. He reported feeling ill immediately after yesterday morning's attack in his home's small synagogue-study space, but was at first treated there by his personal physician rather than being hospitalized.
The yeshiva student won’t be cooling his heels in a Tel Aviv jail.
Instead, the court reportedly ordered him to be immediately transported to the Abarbanel Mental Hospital “due to his acute psychotic condition.”
Prosecutors expect to file a criminal indictment against the haredi man tomorrow, regardless of his condition.
