Sefardi haredi leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, a former chief rabbi of Israel and the founder and spiritual leader of the Sefardi haredi Shas political party, is reportedly seriously ill in a Jerusalem hospital tonight.
Yosef had a cardiac pacemaker implanted at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Sunday evening.
A grandson, Yonatan, said his grandfather’s kidneys were also not functioning, Arutz Sheva reported.
Yosef was rushed to the hospital Saturday evening after feeling ill during the Sabbath. This is Yosef’s fourth hospitalization in the past few weeks. The 92-year-old has been in failing health for much of the past year.
The public is asked to pray for the recovery of Ovadia Yosef ben Georgia (עובדיה יוסף בן ג’ורג’יה).
