A 23-year-old haredi man was reportedly charged Friday with sexually abusing a wheelchair-bound woman at a nursing home in Monsey.
Abraham Mashinsky allegedly entered the Northern Metropolitan Nursing Home Thursday night. Once inside, he allegedly spoke to a 31-year-old disabled resident and then forcibly fondled her. He then reportedly fled the building after being confronted by staff members, the Journal news reported.
Mashinsky lives in Lakewood, New Jersey but was staying locally at his father’s home for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, which began Wednesday night.
Police searched what the Journal News calls “the grounds of the home” for Mashinsky Thursday night but were unable to find him.
But on Friday, a police officer investigating the case recognized Mashinsky and arrested him.
Mashinsky was arraigned Friday, charged with forcible touching, which is only a misdemeanor, and released without bail despite fleeing the scene of the crime.
An order of protection was reportedly issued to prevent Mashinsky from contacting the disabled woman.
Mashinsky’s next court date is set for 10:00 am on October 3.
