A Williamsburg source tells me that all was allegedly not well at the Satmar Aharonite faction’s Hooper Street synagogue on Simchas Torah morning.
Abe Rubin, the man who tried to bribe Nechemya Weberman’s victim and her boyfriend to drop the charges against Weberman, allegedly punched the rebbe’s gabbai Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Fisher over the rebbe's endorsement of Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes. Rubin was upset that Fisher allowed Hynes to visit the rebbe and gain the rebbe's endorsement without first insisting that Hynes drop his case against Rubin.
After Rubin punched Fisher, a large fight allegedly erupted in the synagogue.
The rebbe was apparently told that the fight started because Abe Rubin was drunk.
Rubin pleaded guilty last month and will likely serve no time in jail, because Hynes gave Rubin a sweetheart plea deal.
Apparently that was not enough to placate Rubin, who has a reputation for being extremely volatile.
Weberman is serving a 50-year prison sentence for repeatedly sexually abusing a young hasidic girl over a several year period beginning when the girl was 12-years-old.
