Earlier today an Israeli court found the head of a sadistic hasidic cult and his assistant guilty of rape, sodomy, slavery, and physically, sexually and emotionally abusing women and dozens of children – some of them his own children.
The cult is a small offshoot of the Breslov hasidic movement.
The cult leader’s “family" included six women/wives and dozens of children.
Two of those women reportedly had to be removed from the courtroom after causing a disruption as the guilty verdict was being read.
"There was only love in the house. It's all a lie,” one of them reportedly said later.
The cult leader, publicly identified only by the initial “D” due a gag order, reportedly saw himself as the successor of a well-known figure from his (officially unnamed) hasidic movement and as the individual chosen by that leader to distribute the leader’s doctrine in the world.
“D” used classic grooming behavior to attract female followers. But once those female followers were sufficiently indoctrinated, he became violent and abusive toward them.
His cult “family” reportedly lived in apartments in both Jerusalem and Tiberias. He forced the children to beg and distribute cult propaganda, “using cruel measures to punish them according to his unexpected caprices, erasing their personality and distorting their thoughts,” Ynet reported.
Those cruel measures reportedly extreme violence, imprisonment, starvation, physical and emotional abuse, humiliation, serious sex offenses, and keeping the children away from their mothers.
A male follower who lived with “D’s” “family” was also convicted on serious sex and violence charges, allegedly for acts against the women and children he committed on “D’s” orders.
A search of the “family’s” homes found electric shock devices, ropes and rods – along with medical records from different hospitals across the country which detail many of the physical injuries the children suffered from “D’s” abuse.
