A Jewish cemetery in the small Ukrainian city of Pryluky was vandalized last week in an apparent anti-Semitic attack. 17 tombstones were reportedly totally destroyed by the vandals.
According to Yeshiva World, the haredi news source HaMevaser reported that tombstones were smashed and spray painted with graffiti and portions of the stones were thrown outside the cemetery. Some of the tombstones were moved far from their places and officials do not know where they properly belong.
Police are investigating but, so far no arrests have reportedly been made.
In Uman, Ukraine, a statue of Jesus on the Cross was defaced with Hebrew-language anti-Christian graffiti almost two weeks ago, apparently by Breslov hasidim.
Observers fear possible riots and other violence between Breslov hasidim visiting the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman for their annual Rosh Hashana pilgrimage and non-Jewish Ukrainian locals upset with what they say are years of hasidic misbehavior and wrongdoing.
Ukraine has a long history of being a hotbed of anti-Semitism.
