I've been told that Meilich Schnitzler, the Satmar man who allegedly threw bleach in the face of anti-child-sex-abuse activist Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg last year, will get a sweetheart plea deal from Brooklyn D.A. Charles J. Hynes in exchange for Satmar bloc votes.
Like my report earlier this week on Abraham Rubin's plea deal, consider this an informered rumor from a very reliable inside source.
Embattled Brooklyn D.A. Charles J. Hynes, desperate to win back the the two Satmar voting blocs, gave a sweetheart plea deal to Abraham "Abe" Rubin, the Aharonite Satmar felon who pleaded guilty yesterday to four D felony counts and four A misdmeanor counts.
Rubin could have served as much as 7 years in prison, as Hynes himself said in a press release announcing Rubin's arrest last year:
Abraham Rubin, 48, was indicted on charges including four counts of Bribing a Witness, two counts of Tampering with a Witness in the Fourth Degree and one count of Coercion in the Second Degree. If convicted, Rubin faces up to seven years in prison. The indictment charges Rubin with trying to silence the victim and her boyfriend, who was the outcry witness, and to get them to drop the case by bribing them with $500,000, telling them that they should drop the case because justice would be better served. Rubin even offered to provide an attorney to the witnesses to counsel them on how to be uncooperative and make themselves unavailable for the upcoming trial. Rubin suggested that they flee the country to avoid testifying.
Hynes also said that Satmar's intimidation of sex abuse victims and their supporters was worse than the Mafia.
Even so, Hynes only asked for Rubin to be jailed for 6 months – a clear signal to the judge that Hynes did not care if Rubin was jailed at all. The judge said as much and indicated that he will probably sentence Rubin to a probation-only sentence at a sentencing hearing at the end of October. Meanwhile, Rubin remains free.
Now I've been told that Meilich Schnitzler, the Satmar man who allegedly threw bleach in the face of anti-child-sex-abuse activist Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg last year, will get a sweetheart plea deal, as well.
Hynes allegedly was forced to agree to this to get the support of Rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum's Satmar faction, and their votes in September's primary and in the general election that follows it.
Hynes, who said publicly in December that he would not work with Rabbi Aharon Teitelbaum because of what Teitelbaum did to Nechemya Weberman's child sex abuse victim and her family, went begging to Aharon Teitelbaum earlier this week and apologized for criticizing him for ordering the shunning and harassing of Weberman's victim and her family.
