Senior haredi Rabbi Shmuel Halevi Wosner, known as the Shevet Halevi after the series of books on Jewish law he has authored, reportedly celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday by drinking a brief toast with several generations of his immediate family and then returning to his daily study routine with a student.
Wosner founded the Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin in Bnei Brak in memory of the yeshiva in Poland where he studied as a youth.
Last year, Wosner traveled to New York speak at the large haredi anti-Internet rally held in the Citifield stadium there.
Wosner is the go-to posek (decisor) of Jewish legal issues for much of the non-Hungarian and non-Chabad hasidic community in Israel.
