Manny Waks reported the sexual abuse he suffered in Chabad's Yeshivah Centre in Melbourne to police. Since he did that, Chabad has been shunning and maltreating his extended family, and another incident of maltreatment took place today.
Zephania Waks, the father of the lead alleged victim in the Chabad child sexual abuse scandal in Melbourne, Australia, writes:
Last night, Herschl Herbst, the head of the synagogue committee, came up to me after prayers, after he had ignored my emails for over 3 weeks, and said I would get an aliya (call- up to reading the Bible) today for my father's anniversary of passing away, but that I could not lead the prayers on Saturday night as I should according to Jewish Law. He refused to give an explanation.
So today, I got an aliya. Then, 30 minutes before the evening prayers, 2 "heavies", Emanuel Althaus and Leon Solowiejczyk, both of whom have been involved in punch-ups in the synagogue on the Sabbath on more than 1 occasion (!), Leon having also assaulted me last Shavuos (a police complaint was made), stood guarding the place where the prayer leader stands, together with Herbst, I assume just to make sure I wouldn't "steal" the evening prayers which they had forbidden me to lead.
Just to give a glimmer of insight into the hypocrisy of not allowing me to lead the prayers: there is a person in Yeshivah Centre who is regularly asked to lead the prayers on Sabbath. It is well-known to Rabbi Telsner and others in the leadership that this person is alleged to have committed incest and other serious sexual and financial crimes. They can't say they don't know, as is claimed about the sexual abuse of Kramer and others. The leadership knows, and several people who read Manny's Facebook posts also know who this person is and what he is alleged to have done.
So just to get it straight: in Yeshivah Centre Melbourne, exposing and fighting sexual abuse is a no-no, but actions of perpetrators will be ignored, regardless of how many meaningless "apologies" they issue.
