felony and a misdemeanor – and got a remarkably light sentence as a

A 64-year-old Staten Island man accused of sexually abusing two boys inside the Chabad House of Staten Island has pleaded guilty to one felony and a misdemeanor, the Staten Island Advance reported – and got a remarkably light sentence as a result.
Claude Neufeld, who remains free on $50,000 bail, began abusing the boys when they were 8 years old. said court papers.
One boy was sexually abused four times between December 2009, and December 2010. Neufeld fondled the boy's genitals through his clothes.
The other boy was molested 10 times between January 14, 2011, and September 21, 2012. Neufeld also fondled that boy's genitals through his clothes.
The incidents reportedly took place in an upstairs room in the two-story former single-family home that was converted into a Chabad House. Neufeld was an occasionally prayed there.
Neufeld was arrested after one of the victims told his parents about the abuse. The parents told the Chabad rabbi who told them to call police.
Neufeld’s plea is to a single felony count of attempted second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
His plea agreement calls for a four month jail sentence and 10 years' probation.
He will also be forbidden from contacting the victims, one for five years and the other for and eight.
Neufeld will also be registered as a sex offender.
He will be formally sentenced August 22.
