Police knew about the attack shortly after it happened, but no arrests were made because Chabad and others in the haredi community pressured the family of the victim and other victims not to cooperate with the investigation. And a beit din headed by Rabbi Gedaliah Dov Schwartz of the CRC and RCA allegedly found the pedophile guilty, but did not report the pedophile to police.
Rabbi Aryeh Leib (Larry) Dudovitz
DNAinfo Chicago has a long piece on Rabbi Aryeh "Larry" Dudovitz, the former official Chabad emissary and rosh yeshiva who helps lead a messianist Chabad center in Chicago.
As I reported three weeks ago, Dudovitz was arrested on child sexual abuse charges for an attack on a 15-year-old boy in 2006.
Police knew about the attack shortly after it happened, but no arrests were made because Chabad and others in the haredi community pressured the family of the victim and other victims not to cooperate with the investigation against Dudovitz.
At the same time, the CRC's beit din, headed by Rabbi gedaliah Dov Schwartz, head a case against Dudovitz and found him guilty.
Even so, Schwartz – who also heads the RCA's conversion beit din – did not report Dudovitz to police and Chabad and the haredi and Orthodox community allowed Dudovitz to continue teaching.
A well-connected Chabad emissary outside Illinois told me several years ago about the "meshichist" pedophile in Chicago in response to a remark I made about another pedophile there whose name I could not report because the victims were afraid to come forward to publicly accuse him.
Even with that level of knowledge of Dudovitz's crimes, Chabad did not call police.
But, as DNAinfo Chicago reports, social workers, who knew of seven additional victims, did inform police – who bungled the investigation, in part because of Chabad's witness tampering.
