Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitch also called on Religious Services Minister Naftali Bennett to quickly formulate new regulations that would make the Kotel a haredi and Zionist Orthodox synagogue by government fiat.

In a written statement, the haredi rabbi of the Kotel (Western Wall) Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitch is urging Minister of Religious Services (Bayit Yehudi) Naftali Bennett to rush to formulate new guidelines that will by government fiat determine what minhag hamakom (local religious custom) is at the Kotel, Yeshiva World reports. Rabinowitch defines minhag hamakom as the so-called stats quo – his version of what was and was not legal before last month’s court rulings recognizing Women of the Wall as legitimate were handed down.
“In light of the painful sight last Friday [the haredi riot at the Kotel against police and Women of the Wall], seeing our Jewish brothers fighting one another in the holiest place, I am calling on the minister to extinguish the flames of dispute at the Kotel,” Rabinowitch wrote in a statement that also calls on haredim to flood the Kotel on the Jewish holiday of Shavuot (which begins tonight) to show Women of the Wall (and the secular government) who really controls the Kotel.
“Come to the holy site on Shavuot to pray in a display of unity, modesty and humility to send a clear message to the Women of the Wall who violate these three values,” Rabinowitch’s statement continued.
