Jordan arrested a haredi family of eight from the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh when they apparently crossed over the border into Jordan illegally last night, the Times of Israel reported.
The couple and their six children crossed the Jordan border from the Arava desert.
The father belongs to the haredi Lev Tahor (Pure Heart) cult, and was, according to a Channel 10 report, trying to flee Israel for the cult’s home base outside of Montreal, Canada.
The family apparently could not legally leave Israel because of an ongoing family court case initiated by the father’s relatives.
The family was returned to Israel by Jordan after intervention from the IDF and Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
