Rabbi Eliezar Berland, the head of the Shuvu Banim Breslov hasidic sect, has reportedly decided to live in Marrakesh, Morocco rather than return to his home in Israel. Berland is wanted for questioning by Israel Police after several young Breslov women, some of them minors, complained that Berland sexually abused them.
According to Behadrei Haredim, Berland is traveling with seven suitcases full of "holy books" and has rented an apartment building across the street from the Beit El synagogue in Marrakesh where a steady trickle of followers have arrived to visit him.
But that trickle is supposed to grow to a flood as many more followers arrive next week.
Apparently, many of these hasidim plan on staying in Marrakesh with Berland.
Berland has entrusted a wealthy local disciple with the task of making sure that only the hasidim who plan on studying full time are allowed to remain in Morocco.
