Jerusalem Court Issues Unusually Broad Gag Order In Case Of Politically Connected Rabbi Who Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Three Of His Own Daughters

Based on a Ynet article, last week I reported that a “prominent rabbi” had been arrested and indicted for allegedly sexually assaulting three of his daughters, all of them minors.
Friday the Jerusalem Post reported on that case, but its details vary a bit from Ynet’s.
According to the Post, the rabbi arrested is a “well-known” assistant to a “senior rabbi,” not the senior rabbi himself. The aide allegedly “assaulted his eldest daughter on all of the most intimate parts of her body, both by hand and orally, got into bed with her naked and got into the shower with her while she was naked when she was between the ages of 12 to 14.”
He also sexually assaulted two other daughters, both younger than the first, as Ynet also reported.
The Post adds that the Jerusalem District Court issued a “broad” gag order that covers the identity of the accused, his connection to the senior rabbi, and the senior rabbi’s name.
Additionally, the prosecution reportedly did not announce the indictment, and it only provided copies of it Thursday (the day after it was issued) to members of the press – but only if they somehow heard about the arrest and asked for a copy of the indictment.
The unusual steps taken by the court and by the prosecution to protect the identites of the rabbi and the "senior rabbi" he works for would seem to indicate that the "senior rabbi" is very politically powerful.
The indictment reportedly claims that before performing some of the sexual acts on his daughter, the accused cited “alleged” passages of Jewish law he claimed justified his actions, apparently to try to overcome his daughter’s resistance. He reportedly forced himself on her if she refused to comply with his wishes.
He also reportedly secretly videotaped the same daughter while she was removing her clothes in her bedroom and bathing. While the released information is not clear about this, it appears that his daughter(s) discovered the hidden camera.
The prosecution reportedly asked the court to remand the accused until after the entire pretrial and trial process is completed.
The rabbi’s daughters have reportedly agreed to testify against him at trial.
