Ynet is reporting that five months after being removed from his post after being caught watching online porn, the head rabbi of an IDF division has a new job – head of the IDF’s Torah and Instruction Division.
The rabbi, who has yet to be publicly named, visited pornographic websites – including live sex chat sites –using the personal computer of a subordinate officer. The rabbi did not inform his subordinate or ask his permission.
The subordinate officer discovered what the head rabbi had done and filed a complaint against him. In response, the subordinate officer was removed from the division and sent to serve at the Army Police's Central Division.
Army directives forbid bringing pornographic materials into an army base. Soldiers caught violating those directives have reportedly been prosecuted for doing so.
"The rabbi's [new] appointment drew great criticism in the Rabbinate, among both senior and younger soldiers, because of the tension between his actions, his light punishment and his appointment to a meaningful position such a short period of time after the incident itself. This is a bad and negative example of moral standards of which the Rabbinate is charged with leading,” a source in the Army rabbinate told Ynet.
The rabbi’s new appointment was reportedly authorized by the IDF's Chief Rabbi, Brigadier-General Rafi Peretz.
