A riot broke out Friday night in the Beer Sheva synagogue located in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Yisrael, Behadrei Haredim reports.
Two haredim were injured in the fighting and had to be evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Two others were injured but were taken to an urgent care clinic to get medical care.
For the past 33 years, hasidim and Litvaks (non-hasidic haredim) have prayed in that synagogue.
A small group of Breslov hasidim have been renting a small room in the synagogue building for a decade. But the Breslovers recently stopped paying the rent, claiming that the building is hekdesh – set aside for the use of the Holy Temple (or, as the term is used colloquially today, for mitzvah use), therefore exempting Breslov from having to pay rent
Last Shabbat, a group of synagogue members demanded the removal of the Breslovers.
A brawl started.
Witnesses told B’Hadrei Haredim that "some of those involved in a fight, apparently Breslev Hasidim, used metal batons and beat the others them."
Police cars and Magen David Adom rescue crews arrived at the scene and treated the injured.
