Israel police have arrested three female Jewish West Bank settlers, one 17-years-old, for attacking a pregnant Israeli Arab woman, Hana Amtir, at a light rail platform in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Kiryat Moshe last week.
The women are reportedly being aided by the extreme right wing Honenu organization, which hired Kahanist attorney Itamar Ben-Givir to represent them.
The settler women claim that Amtir attacked them on the light rail and that they were only defending themselves from Amtir later on the platform.
An Jewish eyewitness standing on the other side of the tracks watched one of the settler women attack Amtir without notice or provocation. She alertly took photos of the altercation that followed so police would be able to track down the Jewish assailants.
A police representative reportedly said at a court hearing that the settler girls ran into Amtir by chance. They asked her if she's an Arab and attacked Amtir after she said yes.
He said the settler girls spat at the woman, called her an "Arab bitch,” punched her and removed her head covering.
Two of the settler girls were arrested they went to the Jerusalem Police station and filed a complaint against Amtir, claiming they were acting in self-defense when they beat Amtir.
Police questioned them and promptly arrested them when it became clear to police that the girls were not telling the truth.
The third settler girl, who is 17-years-old, was arrested Sunday.
Ahmad Amtir, the victim’s husband scoffed at the settler girls’ claims.
"Obviously they filed a complaint; they think it will get them out of this,. But why would a pregnant woman at an unfamiliar place start a fight with these girls? It's a lie. There's security camera footage and you can see what happened. She didn't hit them and it's good to hear the three girls were arrested. I hope such incidents will not recur. Our home was like a graveyard for a week,” he told Ynet.
The settler girls live in the Binyamin Region of Shomron which contains 30 Jewish settlements. One is Itamar, whose residents have been linked to a high number of violent attacks against Arabs and Arab property and who have also been victims of Arab terrorism. Another settlement in the area is Kfar Tapuach, which is heavily populated by followers of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane.
