The Vizhnitzer Rebbe released new regulations to his close
hasidim, Behadrei Haredim reported – regulations that mimic some of the
extreme modesty regulations of Gerrer (Gur) hasidim. The Rebbe
instructed hasidim to make sure that grooms are instructed on the new
regulations prior to marriage by an older spiritual guide from the
Vizhnitz community.

At a gathering marking 11 months since the passing of the previous Vizhnitzer Rebbe and the end of the period of reciting kaddish, the memorial prayer, in his memory, the current Vizhnitzer Rebbe released new regulations to his close hasidim, Behadrei Haredim reported – regulations that mimic some of the extreme modesty regulations of Gerrer (Gur) hasidim. The Rebbe instructed hasidim to make sure that grooms are instructed on the new regulations prior to marriage by an older spiritual guide from the Vizhnitz community.
In the talk, which was closed to unmarried yeshiva students and children because of the sensitive modesty issues being discussed, the Rebbe also criticized women's fashions, lamenting that hemlines were too long or too short, and criticizing the types of wigs being worn by some hasidic women.
The new regulations he issued include:
Hasidim were told to speak only Yiddish in their homes, eliminating Modern Hebrew.
Only the Hamodia newspaper (published by Gerrer hasidim) should be brought into a Vizhnitz home.
Husbands are forbidden to walk with their wife in public. (The wife should walk several feet behind her husband, senior hasidim explained, and women who do not want to abide by this should not marry in the sect.)
Women must also cover their wigs with a wide scarf or a wide hat to cover as much of the wig's hair as possible.
