The Israeli business daily Globes reports that political sources now increasingly believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has to bring the right wing largely Zionist Orthodox Habayit Hayehudi party into the new ruling coalition instead of the haredi parties.
Netanyahu’s Likud-Beiteinu would join with Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party and HaBayit HaYehudi to form the nee government. The coalition might also include smaller parties like Hatnua and Kadima.
Beiteinu and Yesh Atid strongly want haredim to be drafted into the military, something haredim strongly oppose. They want to continue to study in yeshivas in perpetuity while living on government stipends, welfare, other government benefits and private charity.
Globes’ sources believe that haredi attempts to create a bloc to keep Yesh Atid out of the new coalition or vastly limit its influence have no chance of success.
