The head rabbi of Israel’s national airline, El Al, is under threat of indictment after he allegedly sexually harassed and assaulted a female El Al employee at Ben Gurion International Airport.
Rabbi Yochanan Hayout was questioned by Israel Police, who recommend that he be indicted, Ynet reported.
According to the criminal complaint, Hayout forcibly kissed the woman and made advances to her. She complained to her supervisors, who told police.
Hayout was detained by police for questioning, but he was released after he denied all the allegations against him.
Despite the denial, police believe there the allegations have foundation. They ordered Hayout to stay away from the woman, and asked the government’s prosecutor to file an indictment against Hayout.
Prosecutors have not yet acted on that police request, and are expected to hold a hearing before doing so.
Update 2:38 am CST – The Jerusalem Post reports that police were notified more than one month ago, and began their investigation then.
Rabbi Hayout reportedly forcibly kissed and hugged the woman on several different occasions.
The Post also reports that El Al claims the woman is not an El Al employee:
The complainant in question worked at the airport, but not for El Al and the incidents in question did not take place within any offices or property of the company, a spokesman for El Al said Monday.
