Haredi leader Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman reportedly met his chief adversary Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, head of a haredi breakaway faction, in Shteinman's home Saturday night.
Auerbach’s faction has set up a political party, Netzah, to challenge Shteinman’s Degel HaTorah-United Torah Judaism in the upcoming Israeli national elections.
The rabbis met privately, but their followers reportedly said that no solution or common ground was reached, and spokesmen for the two rabbis gave conflicting accounts of how the meeting itself came about – with, Ha’aretz reported, “each side trying to paint the other in a bad light.”
