Yesterday, a Bolivian court again failed to release or charge Ostreicher, who has now been imprisoned more than 18 months without charges on suspicion of money laundering. This appeals court sent the case back to the trial judge and ordered her to consider exculpatory evidence she had previously excluded. Some of the senior Bolivian officials behind Ostriecher's arrest are now themselves in prison, facing charges of stealing Ostreicher's rice crop and selling it for personal profit. Ostreicher is wearing a bulletproof vest because of threats to his life.
