The last remaining terrorist from the massive coordinated terror attacks that took place in Mumbai, India four years ago this week has been executed, Arutz 7 reports.
Mohammed Kasab was hanged early today after India’s president rejected the Pakistani-born terrorist's pleas for mercy.
166 people were killed in the three-day-long attacks, including a Chabad rabbi, Gavriel Holtzberg, and his wife Rivka, who died along with four of their guests at Mumbai’s Chabad House.
"His execution is a fitting tribute to the victims of Mumbai attacks,” Maharashtra home minister R.R. Patil reportedly told reporters.
On November 26, 2008, ten Islamist gunmen launched coordinated attacks across the city. They struck luxury hotels, Chabad House, a train station, and a hospital.
India accuses the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization for coordinating the attacks and training the gunmen who carried it out. India also accuses what it calls “elements” in Pakistan’s military for aiding the terrorists.
Pakistan admits the attacks were planned at least in part in Pakistan, but it denies there was any official government involvement.
At first, Kasab maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.
But he later admitted that he was one of the terrorists sent by Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The Holtzberg’s infant son, who was rescued from the attack by his Indian nanny Sandra Samuel, now lives with his grandparents in Israel.
