Elimelech "Mike" Tress was the charismatic iconic leader of Agudath Israel of America. He took Agudah from a small, insignificant organization and made it into a haredi powerhouse, leading the organization in the 1940s through his death in 1967. He's credited with rescuing several thousand Jews during the Holocaust and has at least one Artscroll biography (hagiography) written about his life.
