Of the 120,315 senior high school students of graduation age in Israel, only 57,878 actually qualify for a matriculation certificate (te'udat bagrut), Ynet reported.
But as dismal as the overall statistics are, the statistics for haredim are far, far worse.
Only 8.8% of haredi students qualified for a graduation certificate.
The government continues to put billions of shekels into the special haredi-rabbi-controlled haredi education system, even though the vast majority of haredi schools do not teach English, science, civics, history, world history, geometry, computer programming, literature, or math, even though many of these subjects are part of the country’s core curriculum and must be taught in order for a school to receive state funding.
A series of Israeli governments have illegally allowed the state-funded haredi school system to break the law and not teach the core curriculum – or any secular subjects – while still getting state funding.
Israeli-Arab (39%), Druze (47%) and Bedouin (29.7) students far outperform haredi students (8.8%).
