Rabbi Efraim Zalzman, head of Chabad at Kingsborough College in Brooklyn, tells a New York court that a sex offender convicted of multiple sex offenses against young women (and who also had been accused of drugging and raping several others) is cured because he has found religion. An Orthodox Jew who is shomer negiah won't rape women, Chabad's shaliach to a college thinks.
The judge rightly rejected Zalzman's claims and denied Michael Weitz's request to have his probation lifted. (She misspells Zaltzman's name, though, but correctly cites his job titles.)
Her ruling notes Weitz's long and disturbing record of sexual assault and misbehavior, his lies to the court, and his failure to bring proof from his psychologist to support his request.
As for Zaltzman, he has no training in sex offender therapy and rehabilitation, and he has no secular education – he attended and graduated from Oholei Torah, the "Rebbe's school," which has no secular studies program because the Rebbe forbade it.
