When Judy Feld-Carr says nobody knew what she was doing, that isn't completely true. A handful of Canadian Jewish student activists did know – but they didn't talk.
Contrast this to the behavior of the Jewish Federations, United Jewish Appeal and United Israel Appeal during Operation Moses – and the behavior of Peres, himself. All leaked parts of the operation and all were responsible for some of the deaths that occurred. (Peres has spent a lot of time as President trying to right that wrong by helping the Ethiopian Jewish community overcome the racism it faces on a daily basis.)
Some of those same Canadian Jewish students – and one American student – also knew Operation Moses was running.
But just like we did with Feld Carr's Syrian rescues, we didn't talk.
I met Feld Carr 30 years ago when I was a guest in her house. She's a kind, unassuming person who deserves all the recognition she's now getting and more. Much more.
Here's a link to the Jerusalem Post story on Feld Carr that accompanies the video.
