U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez easily won the Democratic primary in her redrawn district yesterday, with a vote total that was 27 percentage points greater than her nearest challenger, City Councilman Erik Martin Dilan. Dilan was backed by the Williamsburg Satmar Rebbe Zaman Teitelbaum. Rabbi David Niederman, the head of United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg (UJO) and a Zalman backer, allegedly formed a shell organization and used it to produce promotional information backing and to campaign for Dilan.

U.S. Rep. The sign posted below was spotted in Williamsburg yesterday. It backs Valasquez but may really be some of that material Niederman allegedly produced. If it is, the idea would have been to tell hasidim that Dilan would keep Hispanics out the new public housing units being built in the neighborhood – a claim Dilan could never publicly make himself and one which could not publicly be made by groups supporting him or linked to him.
So, the message was sent by making it appear as if Valasquez supporters published it to attack Dilan.
All that I can confirm at this point is that Vito Lopez, the State Assemblyman closely linked to the Catholic Church/Agudath Israelof America/Satmar-UJO efforts to block legislation that would make it easier to prosecute pedophiles, backed Dilan, and Dilan’s loss is seen by many as further proof that one powerful Lopez is rapidly approaching the end of his career:
