A now teenage victim of a notorious haredi child molester Rabbi Yehuda (Joel) Kolko testified against Kolko in a Brooklyn criminal court yesterday.
The 13-year-old boy told the court that he was frightened when Kolko appeared out of nowhere and glared at him and his father as they walked to a synagogue almost two years ago.
Kolko is charged with criminal contempt for allegedly violating an order of protection that forbids him from having contact with the boy or his family or coming close to them or to their home.
"When I crossed the street I turned around and saw him staring like this," the boy testified, crossing his arms to imitate the pose he said Kolko took,”staring at me and my father. I said... 'Why's he looking at me?'"
Kolko dodged prison and sex-offender status by pleading guilty in 2008 to two misdemeanor counts of child endangerment after the boy and one of his then first grade classmates at Yeshiva Torah Temimah in Flatbush, Brooklyn, accused Kolko of fondling their genitals.
The boys’ parents later complained about the unusually light plea deal, with one parent telling The Jewish Week he was tricked and coerced into agreeing to it.
The now 66-year-old Kolko was arrested again in November 2010 for allegedly leering at the boy and his dad.
"He was right near me," the boy reportedly said. "I got scared."
Kolko’s attorney has previously said that there was "no glaring,” claiming Kolko was only wishing the boy and his father a Gut Shabbos, a good Sabbath.
If convicted of criminal contempt, Kolko could be sentenced to serve up to one year in jail.
According to an observer, the boy did well on the stand.
