Haredi Man Arrested For Spitting On, Assaulting Women

In mid-May, Jerusalem police summoned a 22-year-old haredi man, Chananya Rabinovitz, for questioning. Rabinovitz didn’t respond. For two weeks he kept his normal routine and police did not arrest him.
On Sunday, Rabinovitz finally showed up at the police station, where he was questioned and then arrested for spitting on and harassing at least two women in separate incidents approximately six weeks ago. At least one of the incidents allegedly took place in Jerusalem's Bar Illan neighborhood. It is unclear where the other(s) took place.
The motivation for the assaults is allegedly that the women were not dressed modestly enough for Rabinovitz, Ynet reported.
Rabinovitz’s family claim this is nothing more than a neighborhood quarrel.
"My son did not spit on the neighbor, she spat on him and constantly yells 'it's a shame the Nazis didn't kill you,’ Rabinovitz’s mother Raizi told Ynet. “I filed a complaint against her. We live in a state of coexistence. That same neighbor wants revenge and is using the exclusion of women to get revenge. It's what goes today."
"It is regretful that police have failed to present the court with accurate information, while the complaint was known to them for six weeks, nothing was done. And now, under the disguise of 'danger to the public', and after he presented himself at the police station of his own accord, he is shown before the court as a dangerous criminal,” Rabinovitz’s attorney Yair Nahorai said.
At the end of Sunday’s remand hearing, Justice Hagit Mak-Kalmanovitz remanded Rabinovitz for three days, ruling that there were real concerns about Rabinovitz obstructing justice and coordinating his testimony with others.
