Israel’s High Court has again been ignored by a Likud government.
In response to a petition filed by the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism in 2010, Israel’s High Court ordered the Education Ministry to give the court a progress report on haredi schools compliance with a law requiring all schools to use standardized tests to measure knowledge in Israel’s core curriculum – a curriculum haredi schools illegally refuse to teach.
But the Jerusalem Post reports that the Likud-led government of Benjamin Netanyahu ignored the High Court’s order.
In response, the High Court did the only thing it really could do – it ordered the government to explain why haredi schools have not started the standardized testing.
The Netanyahu-led government is dependent on haredi support to remain in power.
